Hillsdale College

Audrey Austin

Entrance Term: Fall 2025

B.A. in Humanities and Liberal Studies

Ave Maria University

Brief Biography:

One of eleven children, Audrey grew up on Long Island and in Pennsylvania. She is thankful to her parents for instilling in her a love of beautiful stories and singing, as well as for their sacrifices to give her a classical, Catholic education. At Ave Maria University, Audrey studied the humanities with minors in Theology and Shakespeare in Performance. The Shakespeare program challenged Audrey to grow not only as a student, but as a person and an artist. Upon graduation, Audrey served for three years as assistant to her Shakespeare professor. Audrey witnessed the power of theater to help students to become comfortable in their own bodies and voices and to make a gift of their talents in service of something beautiful. These experiences confirmed Audrey’s desire to become a teacher.

Recent professional developments:

Prior to Hillsdale, I worked for three years as academic administrative assistant for the Shakespeare and Humanities programs at Ave Maria University. I also served as a Totus Tuus teacher and missionary for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in the summer of 2021.

Post-graduation plans:

I hope to move back near Ave Maria, Florida and teach at a Catholic and/or classical school.

What is distinctive about Hillsdale’s Graduate School of Classical Education?

The community here is very special. Since there are only thirty students in the program this year, we get to know our fellow students by name and cultivate friendships outside of class. I also love having all of my first-year classes together with my cohort. It allows us to really become comfortable sharing ideas and learning from each other.
