Brief Biography:
The eldest of eight siblings, Aidan Jones was born in Texas and raised in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. A love of learning was instilled in him at an early age by his music professor father and his homeschooling mother. He double-majored in Music and Communicating Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, with additional summer studies at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków, Poland. An artistic jack-of-all-trades, Aidan is an award-winning filmmaker and classically trained baritone, as well as an actor and songwriter. His essays, stories, and poems have been published by national publications including St. Austin Review, Gilbert Magazine, and The Chesterton Review.
Research Interests:
G.K. Chesterton, John Senior and the Integrated Humanities Program, the Oxford Inklings, Localism, and Agrarianism.
Recent Professional Developments (Publications, Conferences, Fellowships, Internships/Employment):
My review of John-Mark Miravalle’s book Beauty: What It Is and Why It Matters was recently published in the Hillsdale Forum and republished by New Guard Press. I served the Catholic Diocese of Superior this past summer as their Totus Tuus intern.
Post-Graduation Plans:
I hope to pursue a doctorate in English before teaching at either a classical Catholic high school or a private university. Eventually, I’d love to help found a Catholic high school near my hometown in Northern Wisconsin.
Extracurricular Academic Activities:
Since arriving at Hillsdale, I’ve been involved with the Catholic Society, the Chesterton Society, the C.S. Lewis Society, and the Film Production Club, and have served as a chorus member in Hillsdale College’s production of Ajax by Sophocles.
What Has Been the Thing You’ve Appreciated Most About Your Time Here?
One of the aspects of Hillsdale that I’ve especially appreciated has been the vigorous academic atmosphere. In particular, the steady stream of guest lectures has helped encourage and develop my love of learning.
