Abigail grew up in Central Michigan, and as one of six children in a home-schooling family, she fell in love with the learning a classical style education has to offer. She was inspired to teach through the example provided by her mother, who was an elementary school teacher before deciding to homeschool. She received her Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts through a dual-enrollment program when she graduated high school before going on to finish her degree at Ave Maria University. While she has had the opportunity to teach music lessons, ballet, and religious education, she is grateful for the formation that Hillsdale College’s Graduate School of Classical Education provides before moving on to teach in a formal classroom.
What brought you to Hillsdale?
I have wanted to teach for many years but had decided against it until I discovered classical schools. Having never formally taught, I was looking for a graduate program before moving to the classroom and found out about Hillsdale’s program while at Ave Maria. I was excited by everything that the program had to offer and am so grateful for this opportunity to be more deeply formed before going to serve my future students.
What is distinctive about Hillsdale’s School of Classical Education?
Hillsdale’s Graduate School of Classical Education provides a unique experience that blends both the ideas upon which classical education is based with the practical consideration of what this would look like in a school. By allowing its students to be formed by transcendental truths and an understanding of what it truly means to be human, this program better equips them to lead their own students.
