Henan Agricultural University

Mary was born as the oldest among three children in her family. She spent a rich and fulfilled life at her undergraduate university. During that period, due to her excellent comprehensive performance, she won the National Scholarship, the highest honorable award in the universities of China, twice as a sophomore and junior. Upon graduation, she was awarded as one of the top university graduates. She had never planned to be a teacher. Years of experience as an HR worker made her realize she did not fit in this post. She switched to being a teacher. After one year as a teaching assistant, she was promoted to academic supervisor in charge of all the subjects. From the schoolyear of 2022-2023, she taught Algebra 1 and Literature Grade 9.

 What brought you to Hillsdale?

I developed many questions while teaching, for instance, what is the end of education? How do we know the educational practices or decisions are implemented along the right track toward that end? How do we inspire students to pursue the good, the beautiful, and the true? How do we build up the culture of the school? And so on. I am confused and have no idea. The only thing I am sure of is that I must further my studies and be in a community where I can be inspired and equipped for future work. Accidentally, I found out about classical education while reading. The more I learned about it, the more I was attracted. The classical education graduate program of Hillsdale College provides students with a broad philosophical, historical, literary, curricular, and pedagogical perspective on classical education. This is what I was looking for.
