Rob was born and grew up outside Bad Axe, MI as the youngest of four boys. He was educated K-8 at Big Burning Rural School, one of the few remaining one-room schoolhouses in the country. During his lackluster studies at a public high school, Rob’s interests were sparked by personal learning in Theology and Apologetics. Undertaking a BA in Biblical Studies, Rob followed his older brothers in attending Spring Arbor University, in which he participated in the EP Hart Honors Program and Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford. Following graduation, he spent a short time at Oakdale Christian Academy in Appalachia Kentucky as a Social Studies Teacher. Following this he returned to Michigan as a District Substitute for Hazel Park Schools in Greater Detroit. Having seen two drastically different sides of the education world, Rob was drawn to the MA in Classical Education, which is an illumination amidst a world that has fallen into darkness.
Research interests:
I am interested in the dialogue between Classical Philosophy and Theology, The Inklings, Greek, Justus Lipsius, and Divine Light.
Post-graduation plans:
Primarily, I wish to have a soul cultivated with the virtues which our Western Heritage loves and the Postmodern world abhors; to have a passion for the Classics; to love God in and through the study we have been liberated for. Accidental from that, I intend to seek a doctoral program.
What brought you to Hillsdale?
From the classes that Hillsdale provides for free online to its influential activity in the K-12 field of Classical Education, it is apparent that Hillsdale participates in the world with the purpose of reviving the value of education for its own sake. In my search to continue my education, I was disappointed to find that I felt I had to attend an institution of decaying values in order to get a respectable, high-quality education. Hillsdale College is one of the few places left that offers a high-quality education without sacrificing its values.
